It received Garter Blue in April 1938, then was painted plain black with ‘NE’ on the tender in April 1943, at which point the side skirting was removed. After various allocation changes, it received its final LNER number 16 while based at Gateshead. It finished its career as BR 60016 based at Aberdeen Ferryhill and used on the three-hour expresses between Aberdeen and Glasgow.
