The British Railways Standard 9F is one of the most powerful steam locomotives to have run in Britain, and one of the most successful of BR’s standard designs. Whilst their working lives were woefully short due to the wholesale removal of steam from the British network during the 1960s, the locomotive depicted by this Bachmann Branchline SOUND FITTED model, No. 92090, was one of the longer-lived examples and operated for more than a decade on the Eastern, and later the Midland Region.

The Branchline OO scale BR Standard Class 9F locomotive is an imposing model and with its high fidelity, exquisite detailing and powerful performance, it is no wonder this is an Award Winning model. With an impressive weight and a presence befitting the strongest of BR’s standard steam locomotive classes, the Branchline 9F is a fine choice to haul prototypical trains on your model railway. Analogue Users: Normal-load running sounds, acceleration steam chuff sounds and any other automatic and randomised sounds can be enjoyed when using this model on analogue control (DC) straight from the box - these sounds will play automatically when power is applied!

STANDARD CLASS 9F HISTORY

The British Railways BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 was introduced from 1954, with a total of 251 built at BR’s Swindon Works (53) and Crewe Works (198). Designed by Robert Riddles, the 9F is just one of Riddles’ BR Standard designs, with different Classes designed for specific duties with the vision that such standardisation would bring improved efficiencies to BR operations. The Class was designed primarily to haul fast, heavy freight trains, but the 9Fs also found favour on passenger turns, in particular summer holiday specials when their lack of steam heating capabilities did not present a problem.

Impressive in both size and performance, the 9Fs’ lives were cut shockingly short with No. 92220 ‘Evening Star’ – the 999th BR Standard to be built and the final steam locomotive outshopped by British Railways – entering traffic in 1960, only 4 years before the first examples were withdrawn. ‘Evening Star’ itself did not fare much better and was withdrawn in March 1965 after just 60 months in traffic – thankfully the locomotive was saved for the National Collection.

Despite the early withdrawals, some 9Fs continued in traffic until the final months of steam on British Rail and the last was withdrawn in June 1968. In addition to ‘Evening Star’, eight further 9Fs were purchased by the preservation movement, mainly from the Woodham Brothers Scrapyard in Barry, but so far only six have been returned to serviceable condition in the preservation era.

Our policy lasts 30 days. If 30 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a return, refund or exchange.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

All returns are subject to a 15% restocking and admin fee.

Warranty/ Faulty Items: Refund or Exchange

If you are having trouble with any of your purchases, and suspect it could be a warranty issue, then please email or phone us to go through your item's history of use and background. We are very reasonable when it comes to faults, and will try and resolve any concerns you have as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Each product is covered by the respective manufacturers warranty policy and some products may have individual components that are covered by separate warranties and time frames. We do not offer any additional product warranties outside the manufacturer’s warranty.

Please discuss any warranty concerns with us before sending the items back to avoid any confusion and unnecessary costs. We will generally require you to send photos of the product with your purchase details for an initial assessment and we will go from there.

Postage costs will be at the returner’s expense and refunded if the product is proven to be covered by warranty.

If the product is required to be sent back to our suppliers for assessment, we will cover this cost.

We will always try to resolve any warranty concerns as quickly as possible, where any delay is incurred we will communicate this to you.

  • A warranty refers to any new product which has a manufacturing defect or a major failure within a reasonable period.
  • If the warranty relates to a minor failure then we may replace, repair or refund the item.
  • On assessment if the product is deemed as having a major failure, the customer can decide whether they would like a replacement, repair or refund.
  • A warranty does not apply to any wear and tear on a product, crash damage or a product being used outside it’s intended use.

For items damaged in transit a picture of the packaging will be required.

If the mistake was made at our end, we will happily pay the return postage.
