Choosing CA superglue for your model project
This collection includes CA adhesives in several viscosities, specialist formulations and related accessories such as accelerators and applicator tips. Start with the materials and joint you need to bond, then compare the instructions for the exact product. A shared brand or a thicker consistency does not establish suitability for every material.
Which viscosity should I choose?
Compare thin, medium, thick and gel products for the fit of your parts and the application control you need. Check the stated working time and gap-filling guidance rather than assuming thicker glue always produces a stronger joint. Bob Smith Industries identifies Maxi-Cure as extra-thick CA; it is a separate product from Insta-Cure and Insta-Cure+.
What about foam and clear model parts?
Choose a product explicitly specified for the material. BSI describes Super-Gold and Super-Gold+ as foam-safe, non-frosting CA formulations for applications including clear plastic. Do not extend those properties to every CA glue in the collection. Compare the product instructions with your particular foam or clear part before application.
Are accelerators and tips adhesives?
No. Products such as BSI Insta-Set and Zap Zip Kicker are accelerators, while applicator tips help dispense glue. Check compatibility, the recommended application method and whether the item you are buying is an adhesive or an accessory. Accessories are not automatically included with a bottle of glue.
How do I compare products before buying?
Review the adhesive type, listed materials, viscosity, bottle size and current availability. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for preparation, application, curing and storage. Check the product label and safety information before use.
