Choosing an RC rock crawler or trail truck

Explore RC rock crawlers and trail trucks at Hobbytech Toys, including models from Axial, Traxxas and HobbyPlus. Compare the vehicle dimensions, intended terrain and included equipment to choose a model for your space and style of driving.

Scale and driving space

Compact models can suit smaller obstacle courses, while larger models need more room for driving, transport and storage. Compare the actual dimensions as well as the quoted scale, and choose obstacles appropriate to the model.

Crawling control or trail driving

For technical obstacles, look at the individual model specifications for low-speed control, ground clearance and drivetrain features. For trail driving, consider the terrain and handling you want. This collection also contains related trucks and accessories, so check the product type rather than assuming every item is a dedicated rock crawler.

Ready-to-run or build kit

Check exactly what is included with the model. Ready-to-run packages can differ in their battery, charger and transmitter requirements. Kits may require assembly, electronics and finishing supplies. Confirm the required items and stock or preorder status on the product page.

Compare our Traxxas RC rock crawlers and Axial RC rock crawlers. If building is part of the hobby for you, browse RC car build kits. For a replacement or upgrade, compare RC servos against your model requirements.

RC crawler buying questions

What makes a crawler different from a fast RC truck?

Crawling focuses on controlled progress over obstacles. Compare the intended use of each model; a rally truck and a dedicated crawler can behave very differently even when their bodies look similar.

Does ready-to-run include everything I need?

Read the included and required items for the exact model. You may still need a compatible battery, charger or transmitter batteries. Do not assume all ready-to-run packages contain the same equipment.

Can I use a crawler in water?

Check the manufacturer instructions and water-resistance limits for the entire model. Waterproof electronics alone do not mean unrestricted water use is suitable.

Should I change the gearing to make it faster?

Check the model manual before modifying gearing or electronics. Changes can affect crawling control, motor load and temperatures; choose a model suited to your intended use rather than relying on a universal speed claim.
